About Our Technologies
The EcoThermics RWH model R744 Compressor is a robust and durable second generation engineering prototype. The next development milestone is an advanced alloy version of this compressor ready to enter a pre-manufacturing phase of product development with an OEM licensee. A variable compressor of this capacity (~1.5 to ~7 tons) is in great demand for ongoing development by academia, private industry, and the military, as a component for heating and cooling systems such as air-conditioners and heat pumps. This compressor is desired for on-going CO2 transcritical gas to air (heat pump) exchange systems; a traditional approach.

Compact and modular: ultimate flexability.
The EcoThermics long-term R744 hydronic heat pump opportunity is a new paradigm system design requiring a unique high to low pressure, CO2 gas to liquid heat exchanger. With this mechanical achievement, a new vision emerges for thermal management, conservation, and delivery of thermal energy. When integrated, these components enable a hydronic heat pump which may be accurately described as “next generation”.
Supplementing the RWH compressor, modular products are in development under patent application (a novel suite of mechanical technologies):
- Energy Recovery Module – This “expansion engine” enhancement to the core compressor is integrated seamlessly into the compressor casing with only a few, minor part modifications. Boosts of additional energy efficiency will approach 30%.
- Two-Stage Heat Exchanger – A compact, high-pressure gas to low-pressure liquid (water/glycol) heat exchanger allows piping loops for heating and cooling. This capability is the foundation heat exchanger technology for deploying hydronic motive from a R744 heat pump. Although hydronic systems are common for heating (e.g. in-floor radiant heating), cooling applications have been generally and historically limited to costly commercial/industrial applications.
- Hydraulic Power Module – This modular compressor technology accepts diverse power inputs from hydraulic power or AC or DC electric. This modular capability, particularly the ability to power the compressor with hydraulic power, is unheard of in the current market place.
- Hydronic Heat Pump – For retrofitting virtually any existing system, this product is comprised of the compressor, energy recovery module, and heat exchanger components. Remotely located outside on the ground or on a roof, (similar to an air conditioner or heat pump unit today) this linearly scalable heat pump will deliver both hot and cold liquid circuits into the structure for virtually any use conceivable for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. The unique use of low pressure hydronic delivery eliminates the safety and building code concerns of bringing high pressure CO2 gas into the structure.
